I didn't think it would be fair to my scales so I chose not to weigh in. So today's weigh in will be for week's 6 & 7 of my weight loss journey.

Beginning weight: 204.6

Previous week's weight: 190.6

New weight: 188.2

I lost 2.4 lbs. the last 2 weeks.

A total weigh loss of 16.4 lbs.

I had wanted to reach 185 lbs. by my anniversary, 3.2 lbs. to go, and only 4 days to do it. I need a miracle.

Gonna have to put in some extra miles with Leslie to burn some extra calories to reach my goal, LOL.
Traci's Teaching Timeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094700175667357278noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658291876720133095.post-83518470932030088232013-07-07T15:42:00.002-05:002013-07-07T15:42:33.056-05:00My Opinion of Leslie Sansone Videos Just sitting here enjoying an ice coffee with this good old south Alabama weather. I am thankful that we have been having more rain than usual so it has kept it a little cooler than normal.

I did not get to make church this morning because my little man was sick. I think it is just a stomach bug. He has been sick since last night, but is beginning to feel better so it probably is a bug.

I posted yesterday about my weight update. In that post I mentioned about walking with Leslie, that is Leslie Sansone. I am greatly enjoying her aerobic walking video that I have. My husband has also come on board with me and has been walking. My son has walked more than my daughter. When we begin our new school year in August they will not have a choice. I plan to use Leslie videos for the exercise part of our P.E.

If any of you homeschool Moms are looking for an easy way to get in some exercise for you or your children, these videos are great. She basically uses the same aerobic moves in each video, just switches them up. The moves are not hard. Even smaller children could use them. She has some videos with Christian music in the background. I don't have any of those yet, plan to get some, but the music in the other videos isn't bad. Just a beat to get you moving. Check some of them out online. You may want to purchase some of them. Right now I only have the 5 day walk plan where you are walking a different amount of miles per day. I plan to get about 3 more of them so I can rotate them.

There are some great reviews where different people have lost a lot of weight by just using her videos. Some reviews give negative reviews because they think she talks too much during the workout. Personally, that's what makes the videos so good to me because I get so involved listening to her that I don't even realize I have already walked a mile. Before I know it one mile is gone and we are beginning another one. I have timed her aerobic miles and they all tend to last for 13 minutes per mile. Arms, legs, all body parts are moving, a great over all work out. I have added some weights to mine for some toning. Right now I use the weights separate from the video work out. In the future I hope to be able to use the weights during the work out.

We are moving slow through our books, but we are moving. Summer just seems to have so many events that it makes it hard to get in a good week of school. My motivation, "Some is better than none."

This about sums up our life right now. Hope all is well with you all.
Traci's Teaching Timeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094700175667357278noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658291876720133095.post-88553238599490122332013-07-06T23:59:00.000-05:002013-07-07T00:04:33.155-05:00Week 5 Weight Loss Wow! A great week walking with Leslie! I tipped those scales this week after a slow go last week. I am so excited! I praise God for the weight I lost this week because I thought my body was about to hit a weight plateau, as it usually does.

So here is the weekly report:

Beginning Weight: 204.6

Last week's weight: 194.8

New weight: 190.6

Lost 4.2 lbs. this week

Total weight loss: 14 lbs. (in 5 weeks)

I had set a goal to be 185 lbs. by my anniversary on July 24th, only 5.6 lbs. to go. I only have a little over 2 weeks to do that. Not sure if I will make it, but at least I should be very close.Traci's Teaching Timeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094700175667357278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658291876720133095.post-71647180058784930482013-07-01T23:35:00.003-05:002013-07-01T23:37:29.596-05:00Week 4 Weight Loss Well, a little late this week on getting my weight logged in. I've been extremely busy. So busy that I would have thought I would have lost more weight than what I did, but oh well.

I started a new work out this week and I am assuming my body was building up my muscles this week because I did not have a big weight loss. I began using a walking video this week that has aerobic walking on it by Leslie Sansone. I like it really good. The aerobic miles really get muscles that you don't normally get to while just walking. Leslie has many videos so I plan to use the one I have for about three weeks and then purchase another one. I will then use it for a few weeks and then purchase a third. I plan to have three or four of her videos so I can keep rotating them around in order to keep my muscles confused.

Now for this weeks big weight loss, a big smashing 4 ozs. woo, hoo! as my 5 year old nephew would say.

Beginning weight: 204.6 lbs.

Last weeks weight: 195.2 lbs.

New weight: 194.8 lbs.

Lost 4ozs. this week.

Total weight loss: 9.8 lbs.

I wanted to lose at least one pound per week, but it just didn't happen this week. That's ok I am just taking this journey slow and steady.
Traci's Teaching Timeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094700175667357278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658291876720133095.post-28419361750555993802013-06-22T12:56:00.000-05:002013-07-07T00:07:00.155-05:00Week 3 Weight Loss Week 3 and my weight is still moving. That makes me happy beings last year when I started losing weight I got on a weight plateau and it would not move. That discouraged me and I gave up after about 6 weeks.
So here is my new update:

Beginning Weight: 204.6 lbs.

Previous weight: 197.8

New weight: 195.2

Lost 2.6 lbs. this week

A total weight loss of 9.4 lbs.

I'm thrilled! I am only looking for 1 lb. per week, but I sure like this over 2 lbs. per week. Exercising is paying off.
I am not really doing any strenuous exercising, just 40 minutes a day. I am doing it in 10 minute increments. I ride the exercise bike in the morning for 10 minutes. Later on in the morning or somewhere around lunch I walk in place for 10 minutes. Around 4:00 p.m. or so I walk in place again for 10 minutes. And before bed I ride the bike again for 10 minutes. I also do some arm workouts with 10 lb. hand held weights. about 10 to 15 per arm. Once I lay on my bed I do a few leg lifts. Not a big exercise program, but it is working so far, thank God.Traci's Teaching Timeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094700175667357278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658291876720133095.post-30015011137909204112013-06-21T16:09:00.000-05:002013-06-21T22:38:56.211-05:00Working Through the Summer We finally picked our books back up this week. After a long break from books we are now back on track. We haven't jumped full fledge back in to our books, but we did get some Bible lessons done, along with some reading in our Library Read Aloud, and Literature.
We are only in to the third chapter in our Literature of "A Tale of Two Cities" but both children appear to be enjoying it. Earlier this year my daughter was not too fond of the Literature selections brother had chosen so we didn't finish the selection. I think this one will be a go.
They also worked on their biographical book reports on Charles Dickens this week. Daughter finished hers, but brother still has about one more day of work. Beings daughter wasn't too fond of "The Iliad" we began just reading books about Charles Dickens or by him and turned our Literature in to a study of his life. Maybe next week we can pull in some more of our subjects.
They both left last night going to a youth service about 4 hours away and will be gone the entire weekend. Happy for time alone with my hubby, but will sure miss my little darlings. That sounds so funny calling them that when one is about to be 14 and the other one 13. Oh well, they will always be my babies.
I am working on losing weight again and so far it is coming along real well. I weigh in tomorrow for the third week of weighing in.
Next week my daughter and I are going to sit down and write out her Home Economics requirements for next year. She will check off each item on the list as it is completed and when all items have been done then she will receive her credit for Home Ec.
Currently, I am reading lots of books on different diets, grasping nuggets from different one's. So far the one about the three hour diet is probably my favorite. I know that is the one I have been using for an outline of my daily intake and I am losing weight so that gives it a plus for me. I have also gotten encouragement from "The Biggest Loser Ever" diet book.
I think this about wraps up our week. Not much more is going on around here. Hope all of you are having a great week and have a wonderful weekend.
This past year has just been one of those years where even Mama wasn't even ready to completely stay in the books. Our schooling has been very jumpy, jumping from one thing to another. Instead of a summer plan, we have decided to just jump back in our books and move on in them.
Today has gone pretty good. We began one of our Literature books that we had on our reading list, "A Tale of Two Cities," did a lesson in our Bible book, read from our Library Read Aloud, & worked on our book report on Charles Dickens. Hopefully will get in a game before the day is over for some fun.
Daughter has cut grass today and wanted dear mom to go walking, in the hottest part of the day. She must be very energetic today. Mom is trying to cut portions to lose weight and exercise, but mixing with that hot sun just didn't sound like something I wanted to be a part of today. Maybe another day, early in the morning.
Hope all of you are having a great week.Traci's Teaching Timeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094700175667357278noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658291876720133095.post-34355460105439336612013-06-17T14:36:00.000-05:002013-06-17T14:36:07.445-05:00Soup Recipe Here is a quick and easy recipe I threw together that turned out pretty good. It became a keeper in our recipe file.

Tomato Vegetable Soup

(Mmm, good)

1 28 oz. can tomato sauce

1 15 oz. can black beans

1 15 oz. can corn

1 15 oz. can sweet peas

1 15 oz. can okra & tomatoes (Marggaret Holmes)

1/2 cup chopped onion

1 tespoon chili powder

4 ozs. velveta cheese

Salt & pepper to taste

Mix all ingredients & bring to boil. Turn to simmar for 20 to 30 minutes. Stir occasionally.

Tastes better after sitting over night in fridge.
Probably would be even better with some browned hamburger or sausage in it, if meat was desired.
This should be very low in calories. I haven't figured them out , but most soups online run anywhere from 55 to 150 calories per 1 cup. I've just been counting mine 150 calories to be on the safe side & it hasn't caused my weight to go up.
Try it and enjoy.Traci's Teaching Timeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094700175667357278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658291876720133095.post-4746371113501103172013-06-15T20:45:00.000-05:002013-06-15T20:45:41.700-05:00Week 2 Weight Update Hurray!!! I am shouting for joy!!! I went to Youth Camp this week, watched what I ate (at Youth Camp) and lost weight. I'm soooo excited!!! I can't believe I lost weight at Youth Camp with all the eating that was going on.
Anyway, you all get the picture, I am over joyed that I lost weight at Youth Camp. So Here's my weekly update:

Beginning Weight: 204.6
Previous Weight: 200.2
New Weight: 197.8

Lost 2.4 lbs this week

A total weight loss of 6.8 lbs.

I'm hoping for at least one pound per week. And hopefully I won't hit a weight plateau like I did the last time I was dieting. Traci's Teaching Timeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094700175667357278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658291876720133095.post-1797899104140811562013-06-08T10:50:00.000-05:002013-06-08T10:50:04.586-05:00Weight Watching Again Well, I decided this week it was time for me to try to lose some weight. I don't know what it is about me losing weight, keeping it off for a while, and then slowly letting it return. So here I go again trying to lose weight.
I don't really follow a diet plan. I just count my calories and exercise, most of the time consisting of walking. I don't usually follow a diet plan because I like to be able to eat what ever I desire. I more or less am using the portion control thing. I suppose if I would use that method all the time instead of indulging in foods that taste soooo good I wouldn't have to lose weight often.
So once again, my beginning weight is 204.6 lbs. I have been cutting back this week and have lost down to 200.2 lbs.

A total loss of: 4.4 lbs

This was probably just water weight. Next week should be actually weight coming off. Anyone care to enbark on this weight loss journey with me?
Hope all of you are well. Have a super weekend!Traci's Teaching Timeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094700175667357278noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658291876720133095.post-36851199008982155722013-06-07T15:07:00.000-05:002013-06-07T15:07:19.787-05:00Family Life We are not doing much of anything today. My hubby has been on the computer, my daughter has just been taking a relaxation day, son has been playing games, and I have been thinking about school curriculum. My daughter and I have been discussing a lot of different curriculums, but haven't made any final decisions yet.
We have also been trying our hand at making Smoothies. We have heard of them for a long time, but just never tried them at home. We have been enjoying them. I plan to check on the nutritional value later.
Other than that we aren't doing much of anything else. I hope all of you are having a great summer. I have really missed homeschool land, reading other homeschool blogs. I tremendously miss the fellowship. I need a boost in our homeschooling right now. I have got to read some blogs to pick us up. We really haven't done much book work lately, but have worked on several life skills when it comes to yard work and gardening. I need some motivation to get us back in to school work. Traci's Teaching Timeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094700175667357278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658291876720133095.post-20310957823236728742013-05-30T15:06:00.000-05:002013-05-30T15:06:23.661-05:00Alive and Well Just thought I would let everyone know that we were still homeschooling. We have been soooo busy this is the first time I've been on my computer since March, I think. We have finished up our year and my DC are in TN this week with our Youth group. We will probably do some mini schooling during the summer. I can't believe it, I will have a highschooler next year. We've made it to the point I was concerned with. Hopefully, we will survive the credit thing. Everything has just been crazy busy. Miss all of my blogging friends. Now deciding on curriculum for highschool, hmmm.
Hope all of you have had a wonderful year. Hope things have been going well for you all. I plan to get back on track with my blog. I have so many pics I need to post. We've had trips to the mountains, beach, etc. Another update post soon.Traci's Teaching Timeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094700175667357278noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658291876720133095.post-50801568751234488932013-01-28T15:56:00.000-06:002013-01-28T15:58:36.427-06:00Weekly Wrap-UpIn Our Life This Week: We have been trying to get back in to our school routine with all of the happenings that has been throwing us off our schedule. The children really helped us do that by working extremely hard this week in doing their work. Even with missing two weeks of January not schooling I think we will finish the month with quite a bit of work accomplished.

In Our Homeschooling This Week: We managed at least two full lessons in each subject and a couple of more in other subjects.

In Saxon Algebra 1/2 both children did 2 lessons each. Neither of them seem to be having any trouble with their math this year. We probably could cover more lessons than we are covering if I would push them. I figure by the time they graduate though they will be worked plenty of math problems so why push them.

For Literature we have been reading and studying books by Charles Dickens. We thought we would make a bit of a twist in our new book so we chose a book that has Charles Dickens as a character, not written by him. Our new Literature book is "The Cheshire Cheese Cat: A Dickens of a Tale" by

I'm not sure who is enjoying the book more, the children or their daddy. So far the book has been about a cat who doesn't eat Mice. He eats cheese. But he is suppose to be the mouser for a famous cheese factory. The cat has made a deal with the rats that if they will let him catch them in his mouth he will not eat them if they will give him some of the cheese that they steal. He just needs to make a good impression in front of the factory owner. That's where we left off today. Much laughter has gone up while reading this book. I'll update more next week. So far a great book though.

In History we are still using The Complete Works of Josephus for our spine. We have made it up to Noah and the flood. So this week we have moved to the Answers in Genesis website and have been reading the book titled "A Comparative Study of the Flood Accounts in the Gilgamesh Epic and Genesis." We have been using venn diagrams to compare the flood to the Gilgamesh Epic. We have not used venn diagrams in the past very much so by the time we finish this study they should feel comfortable using them in the future.

Our Science was a bit different this week. We have not used a curriculum. One night we could see a halo around the moon formed by ice crystals so we took it upon ourselves to see why they were there and how they formed. Not sure if you will be able to tell a lot about it but here's a pic anyway.

It turns out that this is not an uncommon occurrence. We used the internet for this study.

Last of all for our schooling this week was our Library Read Aloud. We began the second book in the John Stranger Series by Al Lacy. It is a book about the wild west, outlaws, and shootouts in the street. My children are loving it. We love to read books by Al Lacy because they are also inspirational. Al Lacy's books could be used as great living books for history studies. We have not read one that we don't like.

What We Have Been Cooking This Week: lots of soups for vitamins trying to recooporate from our sickness.

Home Management: We've been doing the Fly Lady routines and they have worked wonders for our home. Only been at it for about a month now and I'm amazed at how clean our home is becoming. My stress level has been lower due to me just doing a bit of swishing swiping each day, not letting the house take over us.

I think this will about wrap up our week. I'm joining up with Kris over at the Weekly Wrap Up. Lot's of laying around, drinking Sprite, orange juice, eating kool-aid pop sickles, & finally up to some home made chicken & rice soup is all that has been going on around here. No one has even felt like reading. We did watch "Where The Red Fern Grows" again. Surely that counts for something, a review from last year's Literature. Can't you tell I am searching for something to say that we have begun the second half of our school year with a great start. Maybe we are just easing back in to things. Yep, that must be it, we are just easing back in to things.
Bless you all.Traci's Teaching Timeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094700175667357278noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658291876720133095.post-640836929379317002013-01-01T22:31:00.000-06:002013-01-01T22:31:42.565-06:00Why Can't Homeschoolers Ever Seem to Keep Schedules? Well, let's see, I was suppose to start yesterday looking over our curriculum to see where we would begin our schooling for the second half of our year and we were to begin school back on Wednesday. That was the original plan. My children and my uncle's children changed those plans. They are homeschoolers also. All of the children plotted against us, the parents, and decided that my children needed to come spend the week with them and they would all begin school next Monday. Is that the way this homeschooling business works, the children make the schedule, lol? Anyway, that is the way the ball rolled so we won't begin the second half of our school term until next Monday.
My hubby and I have been enjoying some husband & wife time. We brought the new year in with just the two of us. Then, we had a wonderful dinner today, black eyed peas, mac. & cheese, fried chicken breast strips, & Mexican jalapeno corn bread. Tonight the two of us are just taking some computer time. This time of the year is usually so busy we don't get to get on our computers to often. We figured that since it was just the two of us and the house was cleaned we could have some computer time without feeling guilty that we needed to be doing something else.
Our pantry shelves are getting a little low on some things so today we took a little time and went out couponing for a bit. When our shelves begin to get a little low on things we take about 4 or 5 weeks hitting the sales, using our coupons and stock them back up. A great big thanks to my Mom for teaching us to coupon. It saves us money and gives us a variety of food to make our menu up.
Tomorrow I will be packing up our Christmas things for another year. I'm hoping I will have time after that to give my stove a good cleaning also. We will see. I have to go back to work tomorrow evening.
I have truly enjoyed my Christmas break. I read a couple of Christmas books & reread 4 of the Laura Ingalls books. If I ever have free time that is what I like to do, read, read, read. Most would probably say I live a dull life.
Hope all of you have been enjoying your holidays. Three cheers to a new year!Traci's Teaching Timeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094700175667357278noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658291876720133095.post-89541415508028224202012-12-29T22:40:00.000-06:002012-12-29T22:40:02.590-06:00Finally Slowing Down A Bit Well, we survived the busy season. We had a wonderful Christmas and was blessed beyond measure. My DH and I had decided we were not going to go all out this Christmas. We purchased one big gift for each child and they had 4 or 5 small gifts to unwrap under the tree. Those gifts were not expensive gifts either. By the time we all unwrapped our gifts out from under our tree and opened the ones that we received from family members it looked like we had gone all out for Christmas. All of us were blessed with some really nice gifts even though we are so undeserving of them. I am so thankful for my Heavenly Father's blessings.
My blessings consisted of a nice set of Pyrex glass bowls with lids, a set of Pyrex baking dishes with lids, some candles, lotion, shower gel & body wash, a set of Rubbermaid bowls, wooden spoon set, perfume a mini crock pot cooker, a chopper/slicer, and some candy. Along with a few more odd and end things. I consider myself to be beyond blessed.
Now I am just trying to get organized and find homes for all of these nice things in my kitchen. I have been following Fly Lady's routine to try to keep my house in order. It is really working. I have even been putting on my shoes every day. That is totally not normal for me.
I suppose Monday I will begin looking over school work and gear up for our next half of the year. We will begin back on Wednesday and just ease back in to thingsbefore we get the ball rolling.
In my next post I will try to get up some Christmas pics. I hope all of you had a great Christmas.
My Mom's Christmas dinner with her entire family was wonderful. There was 81 of us. We all were surprised when my cousin & her family came in. They were not suppose to be able to come, but took a flight that day and made it just moments after everything got started. They came straight from the airport there. Even her sister did not know she was going to slip her family in at the last minute. Them coming home was a great Christmas present for the family.
Yesterdaywas Christmas with our church family. My Sunday school class, I and the other teacher chose to do our party a bit different this year. Our walls in our room were decorated with palm trees and different things so we decided to have a Tropical Christmas. All of our refreshments consisted of different tropical fruits, a pink fluff with pineapple in it, and a fruity punch. It was different from our previous Christmas parties, but everyone seemed to enjoy it.
We had a Christmas breakfast with my parents, sisters and their families, and my brother this morning. Again, another wonderful time. Cheer all around with the cousins having a good time together.
Back home tonight and already had our family Christmas. I don't think there is a complaint anywhere about any gift. We all in this house was truly blessed with more and beyond what we deserved. God was really good to us.
In Our Schooling: we finished up our Apologia Physical Science module, some Literature reading, and a few English lessons. We are done until January.
What I am Thankful For: that we are developing daily cleaning routines and our home is being kept neat and tidy.
I think this will be a wrap up so I will have time to get this posted. Hope all of you have a very very Merry Christmas. God bless you all. Remember, Jesus is the reason for the season.
So here is another brief update on our happenings.
Last week we had program practice getting ready for our Christmas program at church, which was this morning. My children and I were in the program. It turned out great. Sorry to say I did not get any pics.
tomorrow we have to finish wrapping our gifts. With all that is going on I am tremendously behind on wrapping gifts. As a matter of fact, I don't have not one gift under my tree yet. I've got to get busy. I have wrapped some other gifts that we put under my M-I-L's tree, but not any for mine.
This coming Friday will begin our Christmas celebrations with our family. I'm excited! My mom has a family gathering with her brothers/sister/their children(her nieces & nephews/and all the great nieces and nephews, about 73 in all. We have chili and shrimp gumbo as the main feast and everyone else brings their favorite dish/Christmas candy. Everyone looks forward to this event. We all get excited, but this one event makes my mom's year. She likes having the entire family together. I have a cousin that has already let us know that her family is not going to get to come in for Christmas (husband is in the military stationed in Kansas) so I know for weeks we will here how she wished Abbie & her family could have been there. It just wasn't right without everyone. If one member misses the event my mom says it just wasn't Christmas. I know that is only because we have always had a very close family and I am so thankful for that. We may not see each other much during the year, but that night you would not be able to tell it. Everyone carry's on as if we were around each other all the time.
Friday night is just the beginning of our weekend. Saturday will be with another family get together with my great aunt, Sunday will be Christmas with the church, caroling afterwards to our Sr. citizens and the shut-in, Monday morning breakfast at my moms, and Tuesday dinner at my M-I-L's. Busy, busy, busy!
Hope all of you have some great plans lined up. More later. Happy Homeschooling!Traci's Teaching Timeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094700175667357278noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658291876720133095.post-22516897637437254922012-12-14T17:05:00.006-06:002012-12-14T17:05:56.811-06:00Weekly Wrap Up: Mid Year Review

Today I took the time to sit down and look at our curriculum selections for the 2012/2013 school year to see how we were doing. To my surprise, we are actually pretty close to our schedule. We have had a very relaxed school year for weeks now. So relaxed I just knew that we were terribly behind our schedule. I don't try to make our schooling like the public school setting, but we do set goals and try real hard to meet them.
We are not quite as far as I would like to be in our Saxon Algebra 1/2, but we have done a great deal of math this year. I'm ok with where we are at.
English is fine. I don't really have goal points as of to how much we do per year. We just begin in an English book and work our way through it.
History & Bible: pegging along through them.
Literature: we have to finish up with "The Iliad" We are suppose to be done with this book by now, but due to my daughter just not quite enjoying the content we are having to work our way through it slowly. My son is having no problem with it. We have moved on to our next Literature selection and are about 2 chapters being done with it trying to keep us on track. If we can finish up with "The Iliad" before we start schooling back in January we will be right on schedule.
Science, on the other hand has been a different story. My children like it, but for some reason, none of us have been in the mood to even pick up our books. Things definitely have to change in this subject.
As for our normal plans we are doing pretty good for the mid year review. We just can't seem to pull away from the Charlotte Mason method of schooling and follow with just our plans. If we would do that we would be further along in some of our other subjects. But, because we haven't done that we have added some extra reading in with some other great books that we have run across and that has caused us not to have the time to spend in the other subjects.
Over all, we are having a wonderful year. Hope all of you are too, Happy Homeschooling!
1 Graham cracker pie crust
2 13/14 oz. cans of condensed milk
2 pkgs. lemonade packets
1 16 oz. cool whip

Combine both cans of condensed milk with both lemonade packets. Half the cool whip. Put half of it in with the condensed milk and lemonade. Mix well and pour in to pie crust. Top with remaining cool whip. Chill and serve. Quick, easy, and tastes great. Try it and enjoy.
We've been like any other family this time of the year, lot's of cooking & eating been going on, plenty of good food. I'll have to share a quick & easy recipe that was shared with me for a lemon pie that involves no cooking.
Of course, we also did the Black Friday shopping trip. This year my daughter and niece tagged along with us. They seemed to have enjoyed it pretty good. We even came home and wrapped some presents after the shopping trip. There's not anything like wrapping presents to get you in the Christmas spirit.
We pulled all of our Christmas decorations out today and began to sort them so we can bring our house up for Christmas this week. We had bought some things on sale last year after Christmas was over & to be honest, I couldn't remember what all we had purchased. My children are wanting to decorate our tree in red and gold this year so we are going to have to pick up just a few more things to mix the colors. Gonna try to pick those items up on Monday so we possibly can have our house decorated by Wednesday. We love to get our home decorated and sit back, drink hot chocolate, and listen to audios/read great books until Christmas. We are open for any great selections to read for Christmas.
Hope all of you have had great holiday fun too. Happy Homeschooling.Traci's Teaching Timeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094700175667357278noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658291876720133095.post-6285043974363308242012-11-13T14:25:00.000-06:002012-11-13T14:25:47.656-06:00The Art of Cake Decorating Another gap in between my posts, but at least it's only a little over a week this time since my last post. Well, I have gotten older since my last post. Also in a new age bracket, the big 40's. I turned 40 last week. I had a wonderful birthday. My family blessed/spoiled me. My supper was prepared, along with a beautiful cake & some ice cream.
My daughter did my cake. It was only her second cake to decorate. I loved it. She did a great job. The home made icing on it was delicious. Here are some pics of her fabulous decorating skills.
Other than the great birthday, some school work & a park day with our local homeschool group.
Today we are baking Amish Friendship bread. Going to try a couple of different flavors than we've tried in the past. Looking forward to tasting them.
More later. Hope all of you are blessed. Happy homeschooling!Traci's Teaching Timeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094700175667357278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658291876720133095.post-2380938279196641482012-11-03T20:53:00.000-05:002012-11-03T21:42:32.592-05:00Teen in the House? I officially have a teenager in my home now. My daughter turned 13 on Oct. 19th. I just can't hardly believe it. It seems like only yesterday when I recieved her in to this world. She was a beautiful bundle of joy that lit up my life. Time is traveling too fast for me. She is growing up entirely too quick.

Anyway, let me get on with the rest of this post before I get all teary eyed thinking about my baby growing up. We feel like a child's 13th birthday is a special time in life so we wanted to make her's special for her. We had her a huge party. She chose all of the decorations, ordered them off line, sent out her own invitations, decorated the way she wanted, and decided to make her own cake. There were lots of guests & plenty of food for them all. She went with a horse theme. Here are some pics of preparation & the party.
I miss the homeschooling blog world. Even if I have to let a household chore go I am going to blog. Even if I only get to read a few blogs a week.

Here's a quick run down of what we have accomplished since I began ,my new job. The hurricane projects were finished. I'll try to put the pics of them in my weekly wrap up. Saxon Algebra 1/2, my son is on lesson 25 & my daughter is on lesson 31. He's right on track for the way we planned his year. She is a few lessons behind so we revamped her year and that puts her back on track. We finished reading Oliver Twist & are now working on our 2nd book for the year, "The Iliad." We are not as far as I had wanted us to be, but we have made it up in to chapter 4 of our Shurley English. We've managed to get one lesson per week accomplished. I'm ok with that. Some is better than none. History with Josephus has moved slow this year, but my children have really been doing some logical thinking. They have given me their opinions on how things might have been in certain situations. So even though we are moving slow, they are learning history and learning to think about things and develop their own opinions. Their "God's Amazing Creation" book has caused some logical thinking also.

My daughter has been dabbling in to something that wasn't on our agenda this year. She had her 13th birthday and decided she wanted to make her own cake. Therefore, she has been practicing the art of cake decorating. I'll put some pics of her cake in my weekly wrap up. She did a great job for it to be her first cake. My birthday is coming up & I am supposed to be getting a cake.

We also went on a little mini vacation to Mount Cheaha for a weekend. We had a great time. Usually we camp when we go there. This time we rented a motel. We were thankful we did because we had not watched the news and the tempts tremendously dropped. Tents would have been quite nippy.

Hope all of you have been having a great year. Drop in sometimes and let me know you are still reading my blog. I have been so slack in posting, I'm not even sure if anyone is still reading. Happy Homeschooling!
In Our Life This Week: still trying to adapt to our new schedule with Mama's new job. We could probably get adjusted if we didn't have all sorts of extras tossed up in the midst. I'm sure all will work out in time.

As For Our Schooling: we are accomplishing what we can get to under the pressure of adjustments, Saxon Algebra 1/2, Apologia: Physical Science, Literature (Oliver Twist), Shurley English 7, & some home economic skills.

What I Am Praying For This Week: the healing for several people in our church. Many are sick and afflicted in their body. I know Jesus took care of all healing when He took those stripes. So, I claim healing for all of us in Jesus name.

Getting Fit: ok, I've procrastinated long enough this year. I have to buckle down and lose 20 lbs. before the end of the year. That was my goal at the beginning of the year. Time is running out so I had best get on the ball.

Couponing: shelves are beginning to be restocked due to a few weeks of couponing. two or three more weeks and the shelves will look great.

What I'm Thankful For: I thank God that my Mom began couponing and let me see how much we could benefit from it.

Couponing has some work involved in it, but has been such a blessing to our family.

Finances: about to begin on Dave Ramsey's program again to work some bills down.

I think this will about wrap up our week. Hopefully, I will be able to get around to some of your blogs in the next day or two. I miss visiting all of your blogs seeing how you and your families are doing.
