We Did It!

In the midst of having a sick Mamma we still met our goal. The tree was decorated & the lights were put on the house by Tuesday evening, along with all the presents wrapped. This is a record set. I've never had  my house in this much order that I could just sit back & enjoy the holidays listening to Christmas music, reading great books, spending fun time with my children, etc. The holidays have always been hectic. I'm talking there has been a time in the past when I did not even get my tree up until about 3 or 4 days before Christmas. If it had not been for my small children I would not have even put the thing up.
At the beginning of this year I began disciplining my self with certain household chores like not being able to use the dryer until the clothes that were in it was folded, hanged, & put away, kitchen has to be cleaned before bed time, rinse the tub before or after I get in or out of it, tidy the bathroom counter & rinse the sink when brushing my teeth, swish the toilet after using it once or twice during the week, making my bed as soon as I get out of it so it is not tempting me to get back in it (ocasionally I have failed to do this one, but I'm still working on it) even have the children doing their beds (not always made up perfect, but looks better than just a wad of cover on the bed), etc. Just little things like this has caused my house to stay in a very managable state & has kept my house half way presentable should company show up unexpected. It also helped me feel like I wasn't having to clean all the time because I was doing all of these things randomly. Thanks to this discipline I did not have to stop & clean before I could get my Christmas things out. I'm so excited about the holidays & spending time with my children! Hope all of you are enjoying your family this holiday season.
On another note, any Christmas book suggestions for my children & I. This will be the bulk of our schooling between now & the first of the year. We like all of them, children or chapter.

Sorry I can't think of any really great Christmas book right off the top of my head.

This post is great for me to read as I am also going through a "get more organized" stage. It does feel good to feel in charge of the household!!

A couple of my favorite Christmas stories:
* The story in Little House on the Prairie when Mr. Edwards travels with the gifts for Laura and Mary...I always cry at his generosity and how happy the girls were with the simple gifts. Love that story!!
* I also like "The Gift of the Magi" by O. Henry. It makes me smile.

Oh, I love that story about Mr Edwards in the Little House book also. I wonder if people would be as excited over Christmas today if we went back to that simplicity.

Your self-discipline is an inspiration to me! I'm gradually trying to get back to being more organized after having had baby #7. :-)

Oh, I'm subscribing to your blog while I'm here, since I see I've missed your most recent posts!

Wow, I am so impressed with everything you have done. Your presents are all bought and wrapped? Wow, many kudos!

I posted today about some great books we have read this first week of Advent. Maybe some of them would work for your family. I have more lined up for next week, too. This is such a special time, isn't it?

Many blessings for a great weekend,
Lisa

Lisa, it is a very special time of the year. It's the time to focus on our Savior, a new born babe who brought so much joy to this world that we might be saved, but yet He would have to suffer so much shame. How could we not be so joyous & happy this time of the year? He is the greatest gift we could ever have.
As for my gifts being all wrapped, I can't take all the credit. My children helped me wrap some of them. It goes a lot faster when there is three wrapping.
